Most failed reps come down to range of motion. These are the positions the tests judge, and what the app watches for.
Army
Army Fitness Test (AFT)
SCOREDThe Army's test of record since 1 June 2025, replacing the ACFT. Five events, each scored 0–100 against tables for your age and sex. The standing power throw is gone.
The events
- 3-Rep Max Deadlift
- Three reps at the heaviest weight you can move with good form, on a 60-lb hex bar. Your score is the weight.
- Hand-Release Push-ups
- As many as you can in 2 minutes. Lower your chest to the ground, lift your hands off, then press to lockout.
- Sprint-Drag-Carry
- Five 50 m shuttles on a 25 m lane: sprint, sled drag (90 lb), lateral, kettlebell carry (2 × 40 lb), sprint. Lowest time wins.
- Plank
- Hold as long as you can. The event ends when your form breaks.
- Two-Mile Run
- Your time over two miles.
How you pass
A bare-minimum test (60 on every event, 300 total) passes the general standard and fails the combat standard.

Some cells look odd but are correct: the female sprint-drag-carry 60-point time is 4:03 at 52–56 and 4:48 at 57+, longer than the 4:00 cap mentioned on the public AFT page. The scoring table is the authority.
Navy
Navy Physical Readiness Test (PRT)
SCOREDThree events on the same day, in this order, scored against tables for your age and sex. It's the only official military test you can do with no equipment at all.
The events
- Push-ups
- As many as you can in 2 minutes, locking out at the top.
- Forearm Plank
- Hold as long as you can. The event ends when your hips drop.
- 1.5-Mile Run
- Your time over 1.5 miles.
Guide 5A requires at least 5 and no more than 15 minutes between events. The standards apply below 5,000 ft; the Navy publishes a separate set for higher altitudes.

Air Force
Physical Fitness Readiness Assessment (PFRA)
COMPONENTS SCOREDThe Air Force test rebuilt for 2026 (effective 1 March 2026). It replaces the old PFA: the 1.5-mile run is gone and body composition is now a waist-to-height measurement.
What the app runs
Hand-release push-ups, forearm plank and the 2-mile run: the three parts a phone can measure, worth 80 of the 100 points. The other 20 is the tape measurement, which isn't a fitness event.
Each component has a minimum, the asterisked bottom row on the chart: 35 of 50 points for the run, 2.5 of 15 for push-ups and plank. Below that, the component scores zero.

AFSPECWAR Tier 2 Operational Fitness Test (OFT)
SCOREDThe test for Air Force Special Warfare (CCT, PJ, SR, TACP, STO, CRO, TACPO), taken at several points in the pipeline. Nine components, 100 points, done in order in combat uniform and boots. No age bands, no sex norming: one standard for every operator.
The last component is a choice: a Combat Fin 1500 m or a Combat Run 1.5 mi in boots. Both are worth up to 20 points with the minimum at 16. You do one, not both.
How you pass
The ruck is pass/fail and worth 20 points on its own: 3 miles at over 60 lb dry in 49:00 or less, and running isn't allowed.

Source: Official "AFSPECWAR OFT SCORES" chart (Air Force Special Warfare Tier 2 OFT). The chart is an image, read from the highlighted minimum cells and checked by its own maths: the minimums add up to 78 and the maximums to 100. The accompanying instructions page says 77, but the chart's own numbers agree with 78.

MARSOC Assessment & Selection — Screening & Load Movement
PASS / FAIL GATESMARSOC doesn't publish a scoring table. Its own page says: During Phase I, candidates will be given the standards for each fitness screening event.
What it does publish is a short list of prerequisites to arrive with, so that's what the app checks, as a yes or no for each one.
Screening (one session)
Load movement (separate day)
| Published gate | Detail |
|---|---|
| 235 to attend Phase I | 260 or higher is what A&S recommends. The page is explicit that meeting only the minimum does not guarantee success. |
| Complete, continuous, in uniform | No time is published for this — the standard is swimming it continuously in the MCCU uniform with a side or breast stroke. Your time is recorded so you can watch it come down. |
| 25 metres underwater | In PT gear. Phase I pairs this with retrieving a rifle from the bottom of the pool, which the app can't time. |
| 10 minutes | Full utility uniform, no boots. Phase I follows it with blouse or trouser flotation. |
| 4 miles at 15:00/mile | Prep-program ruck assessment distance. 45 lb excluding MRE and water, at 4 mph — 4 miles inside 60:00. |
| 8 miles at 15:00/mile | Graded Phase I hike. 45 lb excluding MRE and water, at 4 mph — 8 miles inside 120:00. |
| 10 miles at 15:00/mile | Graded Phase I hike. 45 lb excluding MRE and water, at 4 mph — 10 miles inside 150:00. |
| 13 miles at 15:00/mile | Prep-program ruck assessment distance. 45 lb excluding MRE and water, at 4 mph — 13 miles inside 195:00. |

Q&A
Questions about the tests
Which military tests can I take in the app?
Nine: Army AFT, Navy PRT, Air Force PFRA, Marine Corps PFT and CFT, the Navy SEAL/SWCC Physical Screening Test (including EOD, Navy Diver and Rescue Swimmer minimums), the Air Force Special Warfare Tier 2 OFT, and MARSOC's A&S Screening and Load Movement checks. Open the app and go to Fitness Tests → Military or Special Ops.
Does a pass in the app count as an official test?
No. Official tests are run by qualified people (a Command Fitness Leader, a grader, a recruiter) with official equipment and rules. The app scores you against the same published tables, so you know where you stand before test day, but its result isn't a record.
Where do the numbers come from?
Each test's governing document: the Army AFT score tables (Annex B), Navy PRT Guide 5A, MILPERSMAN 1220-410 for the PST, the AFPC PFRA charts, the official AFSPECWAR OFT chart and MARSOC's own pages. Each is linked under Sources below. If a standard can't be verified, the app doesn't invent one.
What do the badges on each test mean?
SCORED: checked against the official table value by value. SCORED · 2ND-HAND TABLES: scored the same way, but the tables come from a secondary transcription of the order (Marines only). COMPONENTS SCORED: every part is scored, but the service doesn't publish an overall pass mark (Air Force). MINIMUMS: checked against published minimums (PST). PASS / FAIL GATES: only published prerequisites are checked; there's no score (MARSOC).
Why doesn't the Air Force test say pass or fail?
The 2026 PFRA charts publish every component table but not the composite score you need to pass. The old test's 75 was based on a different weighting, so reusing it would be a guess. The app scores each component and tells you if any is below its minimum.
Why does MARSOC have no score?
MARSOC doesn't publish one. Its page says candidates are given the event standards during Phase I. The published prerequisites are a PFT of 235 (260 recommended), a continuous 300 m swim in uniform, a 25 m underwater swim, a 10-minute tread, and rucking at 15:00 per mile with 45 lb. The app checks each one and reports how many you met. Meeting all of them means you're eligible to be assessed, not selected.
How does the camera count push-ups?
It tracks your body's position and counts a rep when you go from full lockout to the bottom and back up. It also gives form tips in real time. Prop your phone where it can see your whole body from the side.
Why can't the camera count hand releases, pull-ups or curl-ups?
On a hand-release push-up the camera sees the press but can't reliably see your hands leave the ground, so that part is on you. Pull-ups take you out of frame and the camera can't see the bar, so you enter the count. Curl-ups and sit-ups weren't reliable enough on camera, so you tap a button for each rep.
Which events need equipment?
Army AFT: a 60-lb hex bar and plates for the deadlift, a 90-lb sled, two 40-lb kettlebells and a 25 m lane for the sprint-drag-carry. OFT: a ruck (over 60 lb), a hex bar, a pull-up bar, two 53-lb kettlebells, cones and a pool or boots for the cardio event. PST and MARSOC: a pool and a pull-up bar. The Navy PRT needs nothing.
How are runs timed?
With a stopwatch. Measure the exact distance first (a track or a mapped route), start the timer and tap stop when you finish. The app doesn't estimate run distance from steps, because a step count assumes a walking stride and reads 25–35% long when you run.
Why does it ask my age and sex?
The Army, Navy PRT, Air Force and Marine tables are set by age band and sex, and the app needs both to choose the right row. The PST, OFT and MARSOC checks have one standard for everyone, so they don't ask.
What's the difference between the Army general and combat standards?
Both need 60 points on every event. General (combat-enabling jobs) needs 300 total on age-and-sex tables. Combat (21 combat jobs) needs 350 total on the male-normed table regardless of sex: from 1 Jan 2026 for the Regular Army and 1 Jun 2026 for the Reserve and Guard.
What's the Marine combat arms standard?
From 1 Jan 2026 (MARADMIN 613/25), Marines with a combat arms MOS are scored on the male age-normed table regardless of sex and need 210 of 300. Everyone else needs at least 40 per event and 150 total.
Pull-ups or push-ups on the Marine PFT?
Pull-ups if you can do them. Push-ups are capped at 70 points, so choosing them caps your PFT at 270. Pull-ups can earn the full 100.
How exact are the point scores?
The pass/fail result is exact. Services publish a row for every point; the app stores the minimum and maximum of each range and fills in between, so a mid-range score can differ from the official table by a few points. The OFT and PST are exact because they're step tables or fixed minimums.
Why do some numbers look wrong, like a 4:48 sprint-drag-carry?
Because that's what the official table says. The female 60-point sprint-drag-carry time is 4:03 at 52–56 and 4:48 at 57+, even though the public AFT page mentions a 4:00 cap. Other cells that look odd, like the male deadlift maximum dropping to 250 lb at 57–61, were also checked and are correct.
How much rest do I get between Navy PRT events?
Guide 5A requires at least 5 and no more than 15 minutes between events. The app uses 5.
What altitude do the Navy standards assume?
Below 5,000 ft. The Navy publishes a separate table for higher altitudes, which the app doesn't have yet.
How does the EOD rule work on the PST?
EOD candidates don't have to beat separate swim and run times. The 500-yard swim plus the 1.5-mile run must total under 21:00, with neither over 12:30. The app checks that combined rule.
If I meet the PST minimums, am I competitive?
Not necessarily. The minimums are the floor to get a contract and stay eligible. The Navy doesn't publish competitive scores, and competitive candidates usually score well above the minimums.
I scored over 78 on the OFT. Why did I fail?
Because every component also has its own minimum, and missing any one fails the test. The minimums add up to exactly 78, so a high score elsewhere can't cover a missed one.
Can I practise one event at a time?
Yes. Fitness Tests → Custom → Build Your Own lets you pick just the events you want, and it compares each one with your last attempt. Only the full official test gives a pass or fail against the standard.
Is my test history saved?
Results are saved on the device you test on, so you can compare with your last attempt. Syncing history across devices isn't available yet.
Are alternate events included, like the Army 2.5-mile walk or the Air Force HAMR?
Not yet. The Army's alternate aerobic events and the PFRA alternates (HAMR, 2 km walk, standard push-ups, sit-ups, reverse crunches) are in the official documents and are planned, but the app doesn't offer them yet.
What about police, firefighter and other public safety tests?
They're in the app under Fitness Tests → Public Safety: police academy, federal agent, wildland and structural firefighter, SWAT and ocean lifeguard. They follow the same rule: each is scored only against a published standard.
What happens when a service changes its standards?
We update the tables from the new document and re-check them. Each test shows the document and date it's scored against. If you spot a change before we do, email support@repsandsteps.com.
Do I need to pay to use the fitness tests?
No. Fitness tests aren't locked behind an account tier. You can open the app free and run them.
